When I bought my first digital camera it was like being released - there is no significant ongoing cost so there is no reason to hold back. I now use a Nikon Coolpix 8700 which is a great all-round camera, though 8 megapixels does constrain the sensitivity of the sensor making low-light pictures without flash difficult. This was taken at f8, but due to the close distance to the subject, depth of field is quite narrow. Question: Would this photo be better with a larger or smaller depth of field? I like the way in which only the tip of the pen is in focus. But maybe this is too narrow and the words go blur too quickly. Should I make as much of the words in focus as possible (i.e. massively increase the depth of field)? Or just a little more? Or do you prefer an even smaller in focus area? What do you think?
